I was born and raised a white liberal Jewish Democrat. Bit by bit, culminating decades ago I saw that the Democrat Party really had no use for me, other than votes and money. I less walked away than felt abandoned.

I look today at my old Party and have less in common than ever. I know two Democrat local candidates in my old county I'd vote for and support, but that's it. I've worked closely with them professionally and know they wouldn't do stupid lefty things. But that's it.

I cannot and will not trust a Democrat candidate again, claiming to be moderate. They'll just turn a hard left. Spannberger is proof of that. Rural voters and red States noted that. We won't be fooled.

In our recent primary, we had nine Republican candidates for two county commissioner seats. One had been a lifelong Democrat until running in this election. He was the only one along with the one incumbent that were on my hard no list.

I went to a meet and greet and Democrat guy until two months ago was there. Older gentleman. Went up to him and asked him directly how do I know you're not going to sneak in as a Democrat and will act that way in office? This started a 30 minute conversation. Sometimes it just takes a face to face meeting to gauge someone. And listen.

Afterwards he moved up to tossup between him and another candidate. Slept on it, then voted for him in early voting. Took the chance.

The deeply conservative electorate in my county concurred with the assessment he is the real deal. If he'd been a walz or platner or even talarico trying to sneak in he would have been repudiated. Mr. Real Deal got the highest proportion of primary votes than anybody else.

imo, Talarico, w/ the D's strong backing, is flaunting his fake Christianity to bring in the Hispanics that were lost, as well as the Blacks. The thing is, the internet does not get erased. Folks will be 'reminded' of all the things he has said.

Talarico's tweet that "Every white American spreads the virus of racism everywhere we go" is not going to go over well with Texans, not to mention the one saying "God is nonbinary."

He worships the false prophets of abortion, climate change, and social justice. Boys in girls' bathrooms is ok on the internet from him. He's from Austin, bluest of the blue, where the cost of living, now a series being run in the Austin Stateman newspaper, says is the costliest metropolitan area in TX - that includes comparison to Dallas & Houston.

Statesman is also running a series about all the businesses & people being run out of CA because of the blue rules & regulations, coming to TX.

I’m retired but had an Assyrian friend from Iraq at work (CNC machinery) in Chicago who once told me of an honor killing in his town near Baghdad when he was a boy. He was about 60 and had been here for 40 years. He said there was a family living a block away where the daughter was having an affair with a neighbor boy. Both families were Muslim. The girl had an older brother who was a butcher. When this older brother found out about his sister's affair he grabbed her by the hair and dragged her out of the house into the street.

The neighbors heard her screaming and when they went outside to see what was happening they saw the brother using a butcher knife to cut his sister's throat. When she was dead he dipped both hands in her blood, went to her boyfriend's house and smeared her blood all over their front door.

I asked my friend what the police did about this. He said the police considered it a family matter so they didn't get involved. I often wonder though how many men like this psycho brother entered our country during Biden’s open borders years when 12 million mostly single young men that we know nothing at all about came here.

Brave man, “the party needs idealogical pluralism”!

That would mean meeting, listening to, and not de-friending people with a different life path and experiences that have lead to different opinions.

Not all policy is equal. Some achieves the desired result and some policy actually makes things worse. Fortunately about every policy possible has been put into action, so it is possible to do a compare and contrast to pick the wheat from the chaff. That is another element of

Platner’s top three campaign promises don’t include Mainer’s top three priorities.

Cultural Denialism, I like that term.

Democrats teach hate and pretend it’s black history. This Real Clear Investigations article below from 2020 is about the “1619 Project” and what the author Nikole Hannah-Jones told the editors of the Chicago Tribune about its purpose which is, she said, to instill guilt in white liberals so they will support reparations for blacks. White liberals are not being targeted though. White children in our public schools are. And Woke white leftists love this and are totally supportive of it. She was even given a Pulitzer Prize for this poison in 2020. This is not “black history” though. This is anti-white hate mongering pretending to be history to instill guilt to gain support for things like reparations and equity aka race based equal outcomes. This is evil and this is what the democrats have become. And these are the same people who say they simply can’t understand why so many people voted for Trump. In fact, they are the ones who paved the way to the White House for Trump.

“If you read the whole project, I don’t think you can come away from it without understanding the project is an argument for reparations,” she told the Chicago Tribune in October.

“I'm not writing to convert Trump supporters. I write to try to get liberal white people to do what they say they believe in,” she said. “I'm making a moral argument. My method is guilt.”

I didn't read the entire article - it's way too long and even has footnotes. But you are wrong about Talarico. He will lose bigtime in Texas. The most effective ad against Kamala in 2024 was, “She is for they/them, Trump is for you.” Talarico has many more ludricous tweets from 2020-2021 that are even more woke than Kamala's. She never went so far as to say that God is non-binary. Texans won't buy that.

"...a tendency that some Democrats have of dismissing cultural issues—and thus voters’ concerns about them—for not being 'real issues.' ... 'What do the American people care more about? Culture wars or actual wars? Pronouns or prices?' Elsewhere, he has stated, 'Trans people aren’t taking away our health care. Muslims aren’t defunding our schools.'"

This is a logical fallacy I see repeated over and over again by both parties, but most often by Democrats. Are the American people not allowed to care about more than one issue at a time?

"...we are not talking about going after wealth where it’s been hoarded."

Here is another logical fallacy I see repeated over and over again, but almost exclusively by Democrats. Wealth is not a zero sum game, but Democrats bank on less affluent voters thinking that it is and pitting groups of people against each other is an underhanded way of seeking power.

I'm an independent voter and I refuse to vote for anyone based on party affiliation. I don't "give" my vote to anyone, but anyone can earn it. However, part of earning my vote is making arguments with honesty and logic.

My idea for all thinking liberals, like yourself, costs just $12 per year (only 3.3 cents a day) at EthicalGovtNow.org. We are, continually, clustering thinking Americans in a single online home in order to aggregate a membership large enough to bend the arc of future history toward greater justice and better societal and political outcomes, pluralism and inclusivity. May I ask whether you will join our online ark?

Brilliant piece! I think that Talarico and Platner are left wing Democrats with a different style. Democrats are elevating style over substance.

So you have to be a bigot -- or, at least play one on TV -- to win?

Have we descended to the point where political viability requires yelling "ewww" like a bunch of fourth graders in the schoolyard?

First it was to "not lead with cultural things" but to focus on the "kitchen table" issues (which are desperately important, but perpetually being framed like it's 1973). Effectively, though, because of their strength in marketing, the forces of reaction and rage have been able to define the dialogue to an outrageous extent. Millions of people one bad occurrence away from financial ruin? Fine. An increasing amount of what income there is accruing to a few folks with a spectacular ability to avoid taxation? Dandy. A couple of dozen instances of non-citizens mistakenly being registered to vote over the course of decades? GET THE TORCHES!!!! (And in the meantime, pickpockets work the crowd. But it's OK, they'll later be pardoned.)

It looks like you are a True Believer in leftism.

- you support rapists in women’s prisons

- you support double mastectomies for sexually abused and autistic teenage girls

- you live in an affluent upper middle-class lilly white neighborhood of 900k homes while promoting mass immigration into poor and working class neighborhoods, driving down wages and driving up rent and crime

- you support the economic policies that turned California into an unaffordable sci-fi dystopia of the white upper middle class and teeming brown-skinned impoverished masses

- you think the sexual revolution is empowering while teenage girls spend hours on Instagram comparing themselves to models and self-harming at sky-high rates and still climbing

- you support murdering unborn babies without enough shame to want it to be “safe, legal, and rare”

And yet you think you’re on the side of good.

What part of "no, don't tell kids that they are trans and should have their genitals removed" and "no, don't let criminals loose due to suicidal empathy" and "please make sure people come here legally" is 'bigoted'?

Talarico is never going to win in Texas he is the ultimate chameleon his whole fake religious beliefs will do him in. You think the Black and Hispanic church going ladies are going to vote for the trans gender ideology that he champions?

Andrew's avatar

The comment from 2020 about the 'virus' of whiteness should have disqualified him already.

If Platner and Talarico win, it will be due much more to swing voters' frustrations with Republicans (both Trump and his Senate defenders) than to those voters thinking cultural issues aren't important. I fear Democrats will then misinterpret those results in a naive way, like they did with Biden's extremely narrow victory.

"The real issue facing Democrats is this: they are still struggling to understand how to connect with conservative-leaning Americans largely because many of them don’t know any." I call it The Walmart Test. How often does an 'authentic' candidate shop at Walmart? Republican or Democrat.

…”Offering Walz to white working-class voters as a means of “representation” may actually come off as quite patronizing.” Patronizing….. no it is worse then patronizing, I think Democratic elite liberals who created the political architecture that put the Harris/ Walz ticket together thinks the voters who elected Trump twice with all his baggage just think these voters are stupid and they need more “window dressing” to trick them into voting for the right person

Andrew's avatar

What I find so silly in all this is that the voters they're appealing to with this sad-sack stuff ARE IN THE ROOM WITH THEM. They can see you talk about it endlessly online and on MSNOW and CNN. We see you talking about how to trick us out of our votes.

“Why worry about culture war issues such murdering babies in the womb and rapists in women’s prisons? We need to be focused on coming together to enact leftist economic policies to turn Texas into an unaffordable sci-fi dystopia like California.”

- 98.7% accurate Talarico
