This will be the most interesting primary in the country. If Crockett manages to win this one in Texas and Kamala keeps ahead of Newsom in the RealClearPolitics average presidential poll, we will be seeing a new Democratic party, one owned by the progressives and the blacks. It will surely make things easier for JD Vance in 2028.

I continue to maintain that if TX registered by party, 90% of the races touted as "close" would evaporate for the Ds.

Meanwhile, in PA, the voter registration shifts continue into 2026, with the Ds active voter lead plummeting to a mere 43,000, down from 1.1 MILLION in 2016. FL is now R+1.5m in total registrations; NC now has a 3,000 R lead, coming back from D+175,000 in 2020, and AZ's GOP lead continues to grow.

Rep. Crockett advocates higher taxes on fossil fuel companies and to convert the USA to 100% renewable energy by 2035. Imagine how that sounds in the nation's largest oil producing state.

I think the Texas race will be the most instructive. I know TLP tends to be (justifiably) skeptical of progressives, and can be bearish about the state of the Democrats—but if Talarico is successful, it will be worth stopping to consider the proposition that a party that can successfully run Talaricos in Texas and Mamdanis in New York is actually a party showing signs of a promising future, even if you’re not a Mamdani fan. (I personally am not) The answer to MAGA monoculture may not be a rival monoculture—it may be ideological diversity and flexibility. Enough to allow progressives and the center-left to fit into the same coalition.

Notice how crucial the *if* in that statement is though. Here’s hoping the party picks Talarico.
