As a Texan I feel compelled to call BS on the NYT's fictional account of Biden's border. The second Halloween of Biden's term, neighborhood parents gathered for our traditional post Trick or Treating cocktail. We had one new face. A Border Rancher had drained his savings to buy a home, 5 hours north, because his wife and kids were not safe on the ranch.

Near daily, strange men wandered their property, cutting fences and waterlines, scattering cattle. Tons of trash was dropped. Fields ruined when morphed into migrant bathrooms. The kids, used to roaming the ranch alone, now required an armed adult nearby. At school, hours of learning time were regularly lost, when migrants wandered into campus. The school locked down, and police dragged the men off, traumatizing kids and staff.

Less than a year into Biden's term, the Rancher was describing thousands of US citizens living in a war zone purposefully created by Dems, a 1/2 days drive, from the homes of millions of Texans. As he drained his Bourbon, he spoke of trying to reassure his 8 an 10 year olds their pets would be fine. Ranch hands would see to the ponies. The dog would not be happy in a small suburban yard. The kids would visit and their Father, who would commute twice a week, would make sure he was fine. The rancher feared bankruptcy and losing the ancestral ranch. He could not afford many more disappearing cattle, ruined fields or expensive waterline repairs.

Someone in the room asked, why open the Border? The rancher explained a permanent Blue Texas meant Dems would never again lose the WH. Dems expected Texas Hispanic voters, like himself and his neighbors, to permanently vote Dem, out of some warped gratitude for allowing millions more Hispanics to enter Texas.

When that turned out to be the worst political calculation since Willie Horton's weekend pass, and after Abbott bussed the tiniest fraction of migrants to Blue cities, Biden toyed with a "Remain in Texas" policy. Dems were going to put ankle monitors on millions of migrants and restrict them to Texas for the years, it took to adjudicate their asylum claims.

A WH lawyer convinced Biden's inner circle the policy was not only blatantly illegal, but would blow up in their faces. Later Dems realized migrants could be used to prop up sagging Blue State populations, for the 2030 census. Without the migrants, after the next apportionment, Dems may never again hold the US House.

Funny. I’m old enough to remember when The NY Times et. al. repeatedly dismissed all claims of problems at the border as “right-wing disinformation” and/or “Republican talking points”.
