I've been a science fiction reader since the 1960's and I've never heard of Alastair Reynolds, but I'll be checking him out. Thank you!

"If anything, young and nonwhite voters are even likelier to disapprove of Mr. Trump than they were then, while he retains most of his support among older and white voters."

Because I am a classical liberal, Youtube floods me with conservative-leaning videos, presumably because their coders aren't bright enough to know the difference.

Anyways... I have noticed a lot of black content creators supporting Trump and Trumpism that I never saw before 2020. Could they have always been there and I'm only seeing them because the algorithms have changed, or did they only start popping up in the last couple of years because the current crop of Democrats have become too repellent?

In any case, they are there and to win them back, the Democratic Party needs to go back to supporting the working class in tangible ways, acknowledge that the social issues are a losing formula and stop using the power of the government to silence people while blathering on about "democracy." There needs to be actual change, not just a change in messaging. Doing that would go a long ways toward winning me over as well.

I’ve noticed the same thing on TikTok. I think TikTok is a good way to get the “ethnology” of a movement but not the actual numbers, because algorithms create bubbles. I don’t think we’ll really know until 2028.

Well to be fair, are there any classical liberals who haven’t been excommunicated by the left? Maybe Bill Maher?

True dat. Thinking for yourself in today's Democratic Party is an unpardonable sin.

Because Trump is such a narcissist, he's resistant to feedback, so he finds it difficult to adjust policy. Yes, most Americans want illegal immigrants who commit crimes deported. And, I think, most Americans want non-citizen Islamists and their supporters deported. But as to others who entered illegally but haven't committed any other crimes, and aren't Islamists, I think there's a consensus they should return to their country of origin. But the government's efforts to accomplish that (thru ICE) should not be heavy-handed and possibly compassion in selected cases is warranted. Especially now that the border (thru Trump's efforts) is now closed.

If the administration wants to be smart about this we’ll see a lot more of Tom Holman calmly stating: “if you don’t want us in your streets, then let us into your jails”. And a lot less of Kristi Noem tossing out “domestic terrorist”, which is going to work about as well as “insurrectionist” did for the Democrats.

Another point they need to keep hammering is that ICE is executing orders of removal signed by an immigration judge.
