I've noticed that LP spends a lot of time on "what the Democrats should do" and not enough time on "how liberals can regain power".
I realize that Spanberger and Sherrill ran as moderates. But the activists and insiders all knew they were leftist radicals in moderate clothing. There is no way this class would allow true moderates to win a primary election. All the politicians and organizations like Teachers Unions would endorse and donate to their opponent. The media would write about how terrible the truly moderate candidate is.
Institutional Capture
---------------------
How can liberals get control of the media, academia, and activists groups when all these institutions moved substantially to the left over the past 16 years? The youngest academics are more radical than the older academics. The youngest journalists are more radical than the older journalists and so on. The pipeline is going to move institutions even further to the left as they advance their careers over the decades.
AWFULs
---------
Assuming liberals do regain control of at least a few institutions, can the AWFULs even be de-radicalized?
All the affluent liberal white women started out as moderate Democrats who wanted to be part of Barack Obama's historic and post-racial campaign. There are no blue states or red states, only United States. How badly that aged! And slowly, by degrees, they've been radicalized without even realizing it.
The Liberal Party
-----------------
I'm not sure the Democratic Party can be saved. It seems like the easiest way for liberals with essentially no institutional power (welcome to my [conservative] world!) to gain power is by creating a brand-new party they control. The Liberal Party. Reclaim the word "liberal", and in the process and gain the upper hand about being true liberals rather than Republican appeasers.
In a first past the post systems, it's hard for new parties to get going. But the Whigs died and were replaced by the Republicans. Perhaps the Democratic Party - the party of slavery, Jim Crow, and the destruction of the black family - should die as well.
Kat Rosenfield also wrote the most adult perspective on Minneapolis I've run across. Recent events haven't altered the truthfulness one whit of what Kat is getting at. Minneapolis Isn't a Movie https://www.thefp.com/p/minneapolis-isnt-a-movie
Love your weekly music links.
It all looks interesting, but "Golden Boy: Memories of a Hong Kong Childhood" piqued my interest enough to order a copy. Thanks!
