Regarding philanthropy, these organizations should not be political at all. They are 501 C3 and should not be used to covertly influence politics. I get it that many issues fall under liberal values ( climate change education) or conservative ( education about the downsides of gender transitioning ). But I wish we could go back to the days when oligarchs financed city parks, public libraries and other public goods- that didn't have a political agenda.
I will also point out from personal experience on a board that many foundations are influenced by trendiness and the bane of all good work, the consultant class.
Isabelle beat me to it. Philanthropy should stay out of politics entirely and out of economics as well except at the micro level. Not only does involvement in politics violate the law under which they function but make them vulnerable to enforcementa of that law. The Trump IRS could pull the tax favored status of many of the large foundations and make it stick.
An earlier generation of philanthropists did cultural activities with great success leading to symphonies, art museums, libraries and the like. They also did micro economic work in the days before government welfare programs. There is still scope for this such as dealing with the seemingly intractable homeless problem. Micro-finance has promise too. Of course anything is subject to capture including foundations and vigilance is necessary .
The Los Angeles Times coverage of the ICE raids and public protests across the greater Los Angeles area has been excellent. People interested in a deeper understanding of what's happening should subscribe.
If you have kids playing baseball, PLEASE bring them to Omaha for "the greatest show on dirt" (College World Series). Ten days of college baseball, amazing stadium, and a town that loves the fans. I promise you it will be an amazing experience.
Coming from the home of Warren Buffet everyone thought he should finance everything. He invests little in this town except for buying business’ and making them more successful, although his daughter does. However we are fortunate to have the Heritage group. Many of the most wealthy who grew up here and who without, Omaha would still be a cow town. Ironically we do have loud voices from the dinosaur left, denigrating the oligarchs as they label them. Thank goodness they have little to no impact. The new mayor is a Dem after 12 years of growth under a Republicans. We shall see. He is more conservative than most. Interesting area to live in and as many of us have known, we are blessed with our wealthy residents. A great example of the positive societal impact of the wealthy, who if they get involved in politics we would never know, of how to be impactful without being over bearing.
Not surprisingly, the Trump administration is losing the narrative on the ICE raids. Tom Homan suggested that the administration would arrest anyone, including public officials, who interfered with immigration enforcement activities. AG Pam Bondi says “We’re not scared to go further. We’re not frightened to do something else if we need to.” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem wants the US military directly involved in detaining and arresting protesters, according to a letter she sent to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. And of course, Stephen Miller wants to hit his quotas by having ICE agents go to Home Depots and Seven Eleven stores. Trump has already flipped under pressure and said that ICE raids will not be conducted at farms, hotels and restaurants.
The LA Fashion District is a vast 100-block hub in downtown Los Angeles. It's renowned as the center for the West Coast fashion industry, serving both wholesale trade and the general public. It's home to more than 2,000 independently-owned retail and wholesale businesses.
Per Tom Homan, the action there was originally a Customs operation, not an Immigration operation. It involved money laundering, the cartels and failure to pay duties on imports all on an industrial scale.
There is a report about one operation at Ambiance Apparel, a clothing wholesale business, related to money laundering, tax evasion, and customs fraud. The company allegedly under-declared the value of goods and failed to pay customs fees. We'll see if this is true or not in court.

Nothing about cartels in the Fox News interview. I assume that is your embellishment.
That's your response? It sounds like you'e ok with money laundering, tax evasion, customs fraud, illegal immigration, and identity theft.
